EUTELSAT 9B, a high-capacity Ku-band satellite, ordered from Astrium, will be launched to 9° East at the end of 2014. Created in 2007, this broadcasting position quickly became one of Europe’s DTH success
stories, with a ten-fold increase in the number of channels broadcast in its first two years. More than 320 channels are currently broadcast from 9 degrees East including 53 HDTV channels.
The deployment of the 66-transponder satellite will take 9° East to a new level of performance, increasing resources by over 70%. Capacity will be spread across five footprints, with frequency re-use significantly increasing overall bandwidth.
