MUMBAI: Turner International India’s
English movie channel HBO has joined
the top-tier channels at No. 2 in the
English movie genre.
Week 29 also saw infotainment
channel National Geographic Channel
and English entertainment channel
AXN each gain a spot in their genres
and move up to the No. 2 spot on the
As per BARC data for the week ended
24 July, Movies Now held on to its
leadership in the English movie genre
while HBO occupied the second spot,
displacing Star Movies, which did not
feature among the top three on the
Zee Studio continued to be the third
channel on the list. While Movies Now
saw a marginal fall in its viewership,
Zee Studio witnessed a gain during the
Top five movies
Among the top five movies of the
week, Movies Now took the first two
spots by airing ‘I, Robot’ and ‘Ice
Age: Continental Drift’ respectively.
Star Movies occupied the third spot by
virtue of the adventure thriller
‘Jurassic Park III’. The fourth and
fifth spots went to ‘Lara Croft Tomb
Raider: The Cradle of Life’ and
‘Transformers’, both on Zee Studio.
Surprisingly, HBO did not have any
movies among the top five list.
The English entertainment channels
saw a slight change in the hierarchy
with AXN moving up a spot to become
No. 2 in Week 29.
Thus, the second-placed channel Star
World slipped to No. 3 during the
AXN was the only channel to see gain
in its viewership during the week,
while genre leader Zee Café and Star
World each saw a drop.
The infotainment genre has been
seeing some seesaw lately, with
Animal Planet and National Geographic
vying for the No. 2 and 3 spots.
In Week 29, NGC reclaimed the No. 2
spot. Animal Planet, which slipped to
the third position, was the only
channel in the genre to see a fall in
viewership. Genre leader Discovery
and NGC saw substantial gains in their
viewership during the week.
The kids channel hierarchy remained
unchanged during the week. The genre
was led by Viacom18’s Nick, followed
by Pogo and Cartoon Network.
All three channels in the genre saw a
rise in their respective viewership
during the week.
