News broadcasters meet new MIB secy, discuss carriage and ad cap issues

NEW DELHI: A high-level delegation of
the News Broadcasters Association
(NBA) met with the new Ministry of
Information & Broadcasting (MIB)
secretary Sunil Arora here today to
discuss about important issues like the
12-minute ad cap regulation and
carriage fee.
The NBA delegation was led by NBA
president and India TV chairman and
editor-in-chief Rajat Sharma.
Among other delegates were NDTV vice
chairman KVL Narayan Rao, ABP News
CEO Ashok Venkatramani, BAG Films
CMD Anurradha Prasad, India Today
group CEO Ashish Bagga, Network18
group CEO AP Parigi, and NBA
secretary general Annie Joseph.
MIB special secretary JS Mathur was
also present at the meeting.
Arora assumed office as MIB secretary
on 1 September and this was his first
meeting with the NBA, where the
broadcasters discussed issues that the
industry is facing, mainly carriage
and TRAI’s 12-minute ad cap.
The delegation also apprised the
secretary of the initiatives taken by
the broadcasting industry in the
direction of self-regulation, which
includes working of News Broadcasters
Standards Authority (NBSA), an
independent authority set up by NBA,
and a two-tier complaint redressal
mechanism for news channels.
It is learnt that revenue models were
also discussed at the meeting.
