MUMBAI: The pecking orders of three
genres—English movies, infotainment
and kids—changed in Week 35 with
the top three channels in each of the
genres seeing a shuffle.
In the English movie genre, Sony Pix
moved up to No. 2. A similar move was
seen in the kids and infotainment
genres where Cartoon Network and
National Geographic also moved up a
As per BARC data for the week ended 4
September, Movies Now held on to its
leadership in the English movie genre
after seeing a jump in viewership.
Meanwhile, previous week’s No. 2
channel Star Movies was the only
channel among the top three in the
English movie genre to see a dip in
ratings during Week 35. Thus, it
slipped to No. 3, while Sony Pix
managed to come second.
Top five movies
Unlike the previous week, Week 35 had
a mix of movies on various movie
channels. Interestingly, Sony Pix,
which saw a rise in viewership, had no
movie in the list during the week.
The top spot once again went to
Movies Now for its airing of ‘Fast and
Furious 6’. Star Movies took second
place with ‘The Mummy’.
Zee Studio attained the third spot on
the chart by virtue of ‘How to Train
Your Dragon’, while Star Movies was
back to take the fourth spot with the
Movies Now grabbed the fifth spot by
airing ‘Modern Times’.
The pecking order of the kids channels
also changed in Week 35, with Cartoon
Network seeing a surge in ratings
that propelled it to the second spot.
Meanwhile, sister channel Pogo saw a
drop in viewership, which made it slip
to the third position.
Nick continued to grow in terms of
week-on-week viewership and
strengthened its numero uno position
in the genre.
Once again, National Geographic
moved up to the No. 2 spot in the
infotainment genre on the back of
History TV18 saw a big drop in
viewership during the week, which
pushed it down to the third spot.
Nevertheless, genre leader Discovery
also witnessed a drop in its ratings
during the week.
The pecking order of the English
entertainment channels remained
unchanged during the week, with Zee
Café continuing its lead despite a drop
Second-placed AXN also saw a drop in
ratings, while Colors Infinity SD was
the only channel among the top three
to see a marginal increase in
viewership during the week.
