Will Colors manage to hold on to the No.1 spot this week?

For the first time in more than
two years, Colors has managed to
dethrone Star Plus to take up the
leadership position. Will Colors
stay on top of the pecking order
this week too?
For the first time in more than
two years Colors has managed to
dethrone Star Plus to take up the
leadership position. It was in
January 2013 that Colors had
managed to beat Star Plus to take
No.1 spot. Colors in the recent
week 34 of the BARC ratings
(August 22 – 28, 2015) had taken
over as the No.1 spot in the Hindi
GEC genre. The channel had taken
the top spot on the back of a
decline in ratings from Star Plus.
The rating of the Colors (HSM:
NCCS All : Individuals : BARC India
base – C&S 1Lac+) was at 360
million in week 34 and had declined
from 364 million in week 33
(August 15 – 21, 2015). Star Plus
on the other hand had declined to
359 million in week 34 from 387
million in week 33.
Star Plus ratings on the decline
The ratings of Star Plus have been
on the decline since a month. Star
Plus had seen an even larger
decline in ratings in the previous
week (week 33). The ratings of
the channel had dropped to 387
million in week 33 from 409 million
in week 32. A week prior to this
its ratings had slipped yet again
to 409 million in week 32 from 417
million in week 31.
The Channel had seen a rise in
ratings from week 30 to 31 as
ratings rose to 417 million in
week 31 from 367 million in week
30. From week 28 to week 29 too
it had seen a growth in ratings to
404 million in week 29 from 380
Colors on the other hand had seen
a minor decline that week as it
declined to 364 million in week 33
from 366 million in week 32. It
had however seen an increase the
previous week as it climbed to 366
million from 341 million in week
31. The ratings took a marginal
hit in week 31 as it declined to
341 million from 348 million in
week 30. A week prior to this it
had declined to 348 million in week
30 from 383 million in week 29.
Colors’ shows ratings strengthen
The ratings chart of shows in
week 34 saw four out of the top
five shows from Colors. Apart
from Kumkum Bhagya on Zee TV
which was at No.1 spot the other
Colors shows included Sasural
Simar Ka at No.2 spot with ratings
(‘000s) of 6,576, followed by Meri
Aashiqui Tum Se Hi at No.3 with
ratings of 5,365. Swaragini was
at No.4 with ratings of 5,300 and
Udaan at No.5 spot with ratings of
Like the ratings of the channel,
Star Plus’ shows ratings kept
slipping from week 31 onwards,
while Colors’ shows saw their
ratings grow and maintain their
position in the top 5 list. For
instance Colors’ shows Sasural
Simar Ka and Swaragini have seen
their ratings grow since week 31
as they grew from ratings of 5121
and 4986 to 5,647 and 5,470 in
week 32 respectively and
maintained their No.3 and 4 spots
in the two weeks. In week 33
Sasural Simar Ka’s ratings rose
yet again to 6,044 and moved to
No.2 spot, while Swaragini’s
ratings declined marginally to
5,348 and moved to No.5 spot.
At the same time Star Plus’ shows
have seen a decline in ratings in
the same time. In week 31 Star
Plus Saath Nibhana Saathiya was
at No.2 spot with ratings of
5,805. It was followed by Star
Plus’ show Yeh Hai Mohabbatain at
No.5 with ratings of 4932. In
week 32 Saath Nibhana Saathiya
moved to No.1 spot with a rise in
ratings to 6075 and Yeh Hai
Mohabbatein at No.5 with ratings
of 5195. However, in week 33
Saath Nibhana Saathiya saw a
large drop in ratings to 5,445 and
sank to No.5 spot and was also the
only show of Star Plus to make it
to the top 5 list.
While the ratings for some of the
shows on Colors have risen and
have maintained a steady growth,
the channel seems to be seeing a
marginal decline in ratings. This
can weaken the channel’s ratings
unless they manage to bring up
the ratings of all the shows.
Unless Colors can see a large
growth in the coming week’s
ratings, there will always be a
chance of Star Plus getting back
the No.1 position as the
difference between the two is
