Breaking News :  ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ to take temporary break?
MUMBAI: Popular comedian and now
actor Kapil Sharma and his hit show
‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ are back in
the news again. As per a tweet by
Sharma on the social networking
platform, the show telecast on Colors
might take a temporary break.
Kapil Sharma tweeted, “Hello friends.
Hope All well … But m not well…
advised for bed rest… Shooting last
episode with @BeingSalmanKhan
coming back soon Smile
Last month, ‘Comedy Nights with
Kapil’ completed two years of run on
Colors. With the show reaching new
heights, Sharma bagged a film with
Abbas-Mustan ‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karu’,
which is slated for release on 25
September this year. This being his
debut film, Sharma has been running
between shooting for the film and for
the TV show.
Media reports state that he suffered
an injury while working out, and since
the pain got aggravated, has been
advised bed rest by his doctor.
It is not known how long Sharma will
be out of action, or if the show will
go off the air for a while.
The channel might accommodate
special episodes of other shows to
ensure it has a bank of episodes of
the popular show, if that break
happens. For example, ‘Comedy Nights
with Kapil’ will not be telecast this
Sunday on 5 July, since the channel
will be airing the IIFA Awards, held in
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
A query sent to Colors on the issue
remained unanswered till the filing of
this report.
This is not the first time that
rumours of the show going off the air
have floated around. In June 2014,
Sharma had taken to Twitter on a
Sunday morning saying, “Comedy
nights is going off air from
September. V will come back with new
characters n new set. Till den. Keep
He also thanked Colors, its CEO Raj
Nayak and programming head Manisha
Sharma, and his fans for their love
for the show.
It was rumoured that Sharma did not
want to continue with the show as it
was taking a toll on him and the
creative team, and wanted to focus on
his film career, which he was
eventually unable to realise due to
the time commitments that ‘Comedy
Nights’ required.
Earlier, there were reports that
Sharma wanted to change the format
to once a week as he would be busy
shooting for three films under the
Yash Raj banner. However, the
channel had turned the request down
as ‘Comedy Nights’ is its most popular
The show ultimately did not go off
air, but in January this year, it did
turn into a weekly format airing only
on Sundays at 10 pm.
‘Comedy Nights’ was launched on
Colors in June 2013. Over the two
years, it has seen many popular
actors, including Shah Rukh Khan,
Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan,
Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Akshay Kumar
and even personalities from other
fields like sports and music, on its
Incidentally, the show was initially
scheduled to run for 13 weeks, as a
26-episode series. However, the
response to the first episode
prompted the channel to extend the
number of episodes to 36. Today, the
show completed two years of run.
