Comedy Central takes lead, AXN is third in English entertainment genre
MUMBAI: In Week 38 of BARC data,
English entertainment was the only
genre among the English space that
witnessed a change in hierarchy.
Comedy Central beat Zee Café to take
the lead in the genre. Meanwhile,
English movies, kids and infotainment
genres witnessed no change in
hierarchy.
For the week ended 25 September,
Comedy Central saw a surge in
viewership, thus leaping up to the No.
1 spot. Previous week’s leader Zee
Café saw a significant drop in its
ratings which made it slip down to
second.
The third spot in the genre too
witnessed a change, with AXN claiming
the third spot. As a result, Colors
Infinity SD slipped out of the top
three during the week.

English movies

There was a slight change in the
English movie genre: Sony Pix came
back to take the third spot, pushing
Zee Studio out of the list.
Meanwhile, Movies Now continued its
leadership despite seeing a drop in
viewership. Star Movies too
maintained its position at No. 2,
courtesy of a rise in ratings.

Top 5 movies

In Week 38, Movies Now had the top
two movies, namely ‘Street Fighter:
The Legend of Chun-Li’, which was
the top-rated movie of the week, and
‘Pompeii’, which came in second.
The third spot went to Star Movies
Action which made its entry into the
list with ‘The Mummy Returns’.
There was a tie for the next two
slots: Star Movies’ ‘King Kong’ and
Zee Studio’s ‘G.I Joe II’ garnered
the same ratings during the week.
Although Sony Pix saw a spike in
viewership, it did not have any movie
in the top five in Week 38.

Infotainment

There was no change in hierarchy in
the infotainment genre in the week
ended 25 September. However, the top
three channels in the genre saw a drop
in viewership.
Discovery Channel maintained its lead,
followed by National Geographic at
No. 2 and History TV18 at No. 3.

Kids

In the kids genre as well, there was
no change in hierarchy during the
week.
Nick continued its leadership for yet
another week, seeing a rise in
viewership.
Second-placed Pogo was the only
channel among the top three to see a
drop in viewership in Week 38.
Seeing a marginal gain in ratings,
Hungama continued to be at the third
spot.
