Rao-promoted Eenadu Television Pvt
Ltd (ETPL) is all set to expand its
three-channel network by launching
four new channels, namely ETV
Cinema, ETV Plus, ETV Life and ETV
ETV Cinema will be a Telugu movie
channel while ETV Plus will be a
comedy channel. ETV Life will be a
lifestyle channel and ETV Abhiruchi
will be a food channel.
“Yes, we have firmed up our plans and
we will launch the four channels on 22
October,” ETPL CEO K Bapineedu
Choudhary told TelevisionPost.com.
ETPL will be the third major TV
network to launch a dedicated Telugu
movie channel. Currently, Sun TV
Network and Maa TV Network have
Telugu movie channels, namely Gemini
Movies and Maa Movies.
With the launch of ETV Cinema, the
price of satellite rights of Telugu
movies is expected to shoot up.
ETV Plus will compete with Gemini
Comedy, which is currently the only
comedy channel in the market.
ETV Life and ETV Abhiruchi will open
up a new genre in the market as there
are no lifestyle and food channels.

ETPL had in January 2015 received
three new licences to launch ETV Plus,
ETV Life, and ETV Abhiruchi, while it
already had licence to launch a movie
channel called ETV Cinema.
Currently, the network owns and
operates three channels, namely ETV
Telugu, a general entertainment
channel, and two news channels called
ETV Andhra Pradesh and ETV
ETV Andhra Pradesh and ETV Telangana
were earlier known as ETV 2 and ETV 3
respectively before being rebranded.
ETV Telangana was launched on 9 April
Incidentally, ETV Abhiruchi, which is a
cookery segment on ETV Telugu, is
being spun off as a channel.
ETPL is building its television
entertainment business following the
buyout of its non-Telugu television
channel assets by broadcast network
TV18, which is now controlled by
ETV Telugu, ETPL’s flagship
entertainment channel, has been
facing a lot of competition from Maa
TV, which has been acquired by Star
India, ZEEL’s Zee Telugu and Sun TV
Network’s Gemini TV.
21st Century Fox-owned Star India
had recently entered the Telugu TV
market by acquiring the broadcast
assets of Maa TV Network for $375
The broadcaster had recently got
approval from the Foreign Investment
Promotion Board (FIPB) to acquire Maa
TV Network’s broadcast business. Maa
TV Network owns and operates four
channels—Maa TV, Maa Music, Maa
