With nearly 60 channels in its roster, Freedish plans to encrypt future channels with MPEG-4 compression technology to take it up to 110. Speaking exclusively to indiantelevision.com, Doordarshan deputy director general CK Jain said that the auction for the encrypted channels will happen in November with the commercial roll out of set top boxes (STBs) soon after. “48 channels will be on MPEG-4 and 64 on MPEG-2. Viewers who opt for MPEG-4 STBs will be able to view a total of 112 channels, including the FTA ones,”http://www.indiantelevision.com/dth/dth-...g-4-141025

The extended version of Freedish will have two streams of MPEG-4 and four of MPEG-2 so that the existing subscribers can continue watching the FTA channels. Currently the DTH service has five transponders on Insat 4B and will be soon getting an additional one, taking its tally to six. “The two encrypted streams will allow us to know definite subscriber numbers,” he adds.
So SUN Direct will vacate the TP in INSAT 4B once they get additional TP in Measat 3B!?

They might be roping pay channels and should have to pay.. else there is no need to ask for payment.
But point need to be seen is which channels will be on that platform.

as it is said that 4 stream will be mpeg 2 and 2 stream will be mpeg4
64 channel in mpeg 2 and 48 channel in mpeg4
so one stream of mpeg4 will contain 24 channel
and one stream of mpeg2 will contain 16 channel
current 3 stream in mpeg2 is giving 13 channels / stream with sr 27500 so
if they add 3 more channel at sr 27500 channel quality will definitely affected so to keep quality
they may have to increase sr to 30000

If they change to Mpeg4 not a big problem but if they start encrypting channels for a silly reason that is just to find how many DD+ users are there then it is bad. If they don't like Dish TV showing DD+ channels then they can send notice and ask them to stop showing.
