Breaking News :  MSM to launch a new kids ’ channel this Diwali; Animax to undergo rebranding
A new baby is about to see the light of
day very soon from the Multi Screen
Media stable, earlier known as SET
The network that already has the
Indian division of Animax Asia –
Animax India – which began beaming
on Indian television sets from 5 July
2004 – is also one of the pioneers to
educate the Indian audience about
Japanese Anime form of animation
(barring the exception of The Jungle
Book, which was aired during the
mid-1990s on the national
broadcaster Doordarshan) with the
likes of Bleach: The DiamondDust
Rebellion and Valkyria Chronicles .
Animax India currently airs
in English, 24 hours a day. It is a part
of the Japanese media conglomerate –
Sony and also the first animation
channel in the country to be targeting
an audience between ages 15 and 40.
Although the channel did experiment
with a 12 hour Hindi feed in between
but sensing that they need to cater to
a larger audience base, they shut the
feed beginning 15 August, 2006.
According to our sources close to the
development, Multi Screen Media is
burning the mid night oil to scout for
the right content for it new kids’
channel, which is tentatively gearing
up for a Diwali blast in November this
Well, that’s certainly good news for a
lot of India-based animation studios
that would love to explore co-
producing IPs with the new channel,
as already many local studios have
enjoyed much success working with
other leading broadcasters like: Green
Gold Animation’s Chhota Bheem and
Mighty Raju IPs with Pogo and Arjun
– The Prince of Bali with Disney
Channel India; Toonz Animation
India’s Pakdam Pakdai with Sonic and
Maya Digital Studios’ Motu Patlu with
Nick India.
After the departure of Sunil Punjabi
in December 2014, it has been unclear
as to who exactly is leading the
content strategy for the anime driven
kids’ channel for the network. But
according to our sources a certain
Nina Dutta and Aditya Mehta are
working closely together with a small
team to get this new channel up and
running in time.
