Irrfan Khan, the recipient of 2011 Padma Shri Award, has appeared in all the available acting platforms starting from theatres, television to films, documentaries and even commercials. He has also acted in some Hollywood movies and has impressed everyone with his intense and impactful performances.
A graduate from National School of Drama, Irrfan started his career with acting in famous television serials like ‘Chanakya’, ‘Bharat Ek Khoj’, ‘Banegi Apni Baat’, ‘Chandrakanta’ etc.
His first Bollywood film was ‘Salaam Bombay’ (1988) where he performed a cameo, but his role was edited out in the final film. After giving a string of unknown and unsuccessful films, Irrfan’s career scaled to new heights with his performances in ‘Maqbool’ (2003), ‘Haasil’ (2003), ‘Life in a Metro’ (2006), ‘The Namesake’ (2006) etc. In 2004 he won the Filmfare “Best Villian” Award for the role in film ‘Haasil’, which grossed total revenue of over Rs. 11 Cr.
Irrfan’s role of Police Inspector in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ won him Screen Actors Guild Award for “Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture”. He also received lot of praise from the movie’s Director Danny Boyle who compared him to an athlete who can execute the same move perfectly over and over. His next and much awaited project is ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ where he is playing the character of Nels Van Adder, an adversary of Spider – Man.
