Breaking FIRST : ‘Jana Gana Mana’ an excerpt from Rabindranath Tagore's Brahmo hymn
For the upcoming Independence Day, I would like to share with you the full and complete version of our National anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’. Written in highly Sanskritised (Tatsama) Bengali, it is the first of five stanzas of a Brahmo hymn composed and scored by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. It was first sung in Calcutta Session of the Indian National Congress on 27 December 1911. “Jana Gana Mana” was officially adopted by the Constituent Assembly as the Indian national anthem on 24 January 1950. I am fortunate to discover the full version of the song and the beautiful lyrics of the other 4 stanzas, which preach brotherhood among religions and peace and love to the motherland.
