Arasu gets ISP licence, ropes in cable ops for broadband service
MUMBAI: Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV
Corporation (TACTV), which has
received its internet service provider
(ISP) licence from the Union
government, plans to provide internet
services, including IPTV, chief
minister J Jayalalithaa said in the
state assembly.
State-owned Arasu has signed a pact
with Indian RailTel for providing high-
speed broadband internet services. It
has already roped in 552 cable
operators to provide internet
services, Jayalalithaa added.
The corporation will also implement
the Centre’s broadband project
‘BharatNet’ linking more than 12,500
rural local bodies in the state at an
investment of Rs 3,000 crore (Rs 30
billion). For implementing this
project, the state government will
also create Tamil Nadu FibreNet
“Further, I am happy to announce that
internet protocol television (IPTV)
services will also be provided along
with high-speed broadband and other
internet services,” she said.
The CM also said that the Centre has
accepted her demand that BharatNet
should be implemented through the
state government.
