Star Jalsha to strengthen non-fiction space
#1
MUMBAI: Star Jalsha is looking to
strengthen its non-fiction content
with new shows.
Living up to its brand philosophy of
‘Chalo Paltai’ (Let’s Change), the
channel had launched ‘Bhyabachaka’
based on the popular format game
show ‘Disturb’ from the UK. The show
was launched in Bengal for the first
time and airs from 8 to 9 pm on
Sunday.
The line-up also included a cookery
show, ‘Ebar Jalsha Rannaghare’,
airing from 7 to 7:30 pm on Sunday.
Besides recipes, the show will feature
latest fashion trends, designers and
stylists giving makeovers to Jalsha
leads, unplugged solo performances by
singers of Bengal, special episodes
with celebrities from the tinsel town
and more.
The third show launched by the
channel is ‘I Laugh U 3’. It is an old
Star Jalsha format packaged in a new
way with an increased dose of
laughter and entertainment.
These shows, coupled with some of the
fiction shows being extended to
Sunday, helped Star Jalsha gain
growth in the non-fiction space as
well. ‘Ebar Jalsha Rannaghare’
continues to rise up the chart in the
genre as the most successful non-
fiction show, followed by
‘Bhyabachaka’ and ‘I Laugh U 3’.
The channel will now launch an array
of non-fiction shows catering to
their Sunday audience and providing
advertisers a way to reach out to its
viewers.
A Star India spokesperson said, “It
has been our constant endeavour to
provide wholesome and differentiated
entertainment for the entire family.
We were always dominating the
fiction space and now with the new
non-fiction shows, we have just made
our offering even more varied and
entertaining. The successful non-
fiction shows, along with the
extended fiction shows, have made
Jalsha a new destination for viewers
on Sundays. Our recent success in
non-fiction has made us even more
committed to it and we have decided to
come up with an array of new non-
fiction shows that I am sure will go on
to create new benchmarks in Bangla
general entertainment.”
Jalsha will launch another format-
driven game show called ‘Amra Na
Ora’, adapted from the UK’s popular
game show ‘Push the Button’. To be
produced by Fremantle, this will
feature Star Jalsha shows’ families
fighting it out in a fun game.
There will be another big-ticket non-
fiction this quarter, for which Star
Jalsha is yet to decide a name.
