MUMBAI: Strengthening its cricket play, ZEEL-owned sport broadcaster Ten Sports has renewed its deal with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for five years. With the renewal of the PCB deal, Ten Sports has renewed deals with all five cricket boards—Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies, South Africa and Zimbabwe. ICC FTP 2014 to 2019 This is the second major cricket deal that has been renewed under CEO Rajesh Sethi. The first major renewal was that of Sri Lanka Cricket rights until 2020 in March last year. The decision to award the rights to Ten Sports was taken at the 34th meeting of the PCB’s board of governors. “The board of governors approved awarding broadcasting rights to Pakistan Television and Ten Sports, joint bidders for PCB’s next rights cycle for five years,” the PCB said in a statement. Pakistan Television (PTV) is a public broadcaster that will air the matches on its terrestrial network. As per the ICC future tours programme (FTP), Pakistan will play seven bi-lateral series at home including one against India in December–January 2015–16 involving two Tests, five ODIs, and two T20 series during the five-year rights cycle. Between October 2015 and March 2019, Pakistan will play 54 matches, which include 16 Tests, 30 ODIs, and eight T20s. Ten Sports’ previous five-year deal worth $140 million with the PCB ended in June 2013. The cricket board had earlier claimed to have suffered a loss of $80 million in its deal with Ten Sports due to cancellation of India series. The PCB has been awarding broadcast rights on a series-to-series basis following the expiry of its deal with Ten Sports. PCB chairman Shahryar M Khan had recently stated that the resumption of cricketing ties with India will help it maximise revenue from the sale of media rights.
