CHANNEL LIST Will cable television go digital in Bangalore and Mysore by March 31?
After the bitter experience and resulting controversy in the implementation of digitisation of cable television services in the four metros of the country, authorities are now making efforts to put in place this mandatory Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) rule in 37 cities including Bangalore and Mysore by March 31.

However, industry sources in Bangalore claim this is a very tough proposition as they have exhausted their resources to import the set top boxes plus people are reluctant to shell out money for this extra device.

In Bangalore, with cable TV services limited to 18-20 lakh homes, the exercise of installing set-top boxes in each household has to be completed by March end.

With only 40 per cent of households having set-top boxes, the MSOs (Multi system operators) need nearly Rs 300 crore to import these boxes from China. Presently, the city has 9 MSOs and 1500 registered LCOs (local cable operators) who will be actually installing the boxes.
