solution for rain interruption

In kerala it is always raining and at the sight of a cloud the HD channels goes first, and if it starts raining then the sd channels goes as well.
So inspite of paying around 800rs pm(2 tv) most of the time cannot see anything
Dishtv guys dont have any solution they just says it is with every dth

anybody know any solution for this?

i have chased asianet cable 2 -3 times they are not interested in providing connection inspite of telling i will take their hd connection plus the 12mbps 60gb cable internet for 2000 odd per month. they need to bring some 100mtr cable so they are not interested and i stopped chasing them, if the attitude is like that before connection what will be after

also after the recent hd channel additions there is no sense to go to asianet cable because of so much less hd content, i hardly watch any sd channels. (now forced to watch beacuse dish tv hd gone due to slight rain, sd still working)

1. Some shops cheat that is why wanted to tell him clearly.

2. Till now i had seen scalar rings come with cband lnbf.. so hopefully he will get if he buy Cband lnbf

maybe earlier there was some change, and also if we buy just lnb without feedhorn then scalar ring wont be given. So best is to buy LNBF

3. One more point as said by Mj786, buy one Cband LNB with scalar ring. Scalar ring should come with the LNB don’t forget it.

4. OK, now it is clear what to do, i will get the 6ft and use the center lnb for asiasat. side lnb for nss6

5. For now you setup the dish with center lnb either on Asiasat 5 or on Nss6 and add a side lnb and use diseqc. There will be drastic reduction in rain fade on centre LNB.

If no need to watch DD channels and also lazy to buy 6ft dish you can reduce rain fade putting two dual out LNB with diseqc with one 60cms dish centered on Asiasat and another one on NSS. Rain fade will reduce atleast 30%.

6. getting that 6ft antenna is easy as it is packed well that you can carry on two wheeler also just with help of one more person to sit behind.. rest are small items..

7. I buy lot of stuff online mainly form ebay in and amazon, not sure this solid site can be trusted
i also thought the price were reasonable till i try to checkout when i saw a 1000Rs shipping charge. later amatan said their price is too much. so i will check the local market. Nowadays due to metro construction getting to that place is a real challenge also need to takeout the suv to bring these back so being lazy i was interested in buying online earlier.

amatan said the side mounted lnb not optimum for the rain fade so i await his reply for the best solution,
i want to do it right, i think here we have 7-8 months of rain here
also now iam not sure all the shops will be open due to onam, so will try sometime next week

8. 6ft dish cost is 400 rs more than what it is in hyderabad , rest of them are similar with some 50rs differences

Are you going to buy online or at local market?

9. thanks i will buy dual output lnb

yes the main aim is dish tv hd channels during rain, so please suggest the best solution for that

C band hd channels is next priority

nice to have is some improvement in rain fade for the malayalam sd channels

never going to watch dd free channels so no need to consider it,

thanks for the headsup on price.

i plan to check local market anyway, the shipping cost itself is around 1000rs
is this a good brand?

regarding the ku band lnb the second connection is not too important so using the high gain lnb ensure more performance during rain then i prefer that.(will the splitter idea work ok? or for two stb one must use dual output lnb. here 2 nos with disecq)
The links you mentioned are the ones you need to buy. But check in local market as the rates here in the site seems to be very very high I guess. For Ku lnb buy dual out. So that you can connect both the stbs. Splitter idea often fails.

You need two dual out lnb and two diseqc and a 6 feet dish. You can buy C band lnbf, stb etc.,. later on.

Before buying please let me know your main aim is HD channels or Dish TV sd channels or you also need DD Free Dish? Because adding side LNB will loose the advantage over rain fade.

please check the below links and see if they are recommended before i finalise, if any other better suggestion also let me know

for C band lnbf

for ku band lnb
for the dish tv connection there are two stb.s so should i buy two below lnb and use a splitter or use the the twin output lnb. Now there are two dishtv provided antenna , one for for each

single output high gain

fta hd stb

13. also get one cband lnbf with 2 Ku band lnbs

14. Fixing Mono Block on 6 feet prime focus is a headache even then it wont get NSS & Asiasat.

So two lnbs needed and easier way is to use diseqc port 1 & 2 for this purpose. Dish TV stb will work fine without changing any options in the STB. Port 1 should go for NSS6 and port 2 for Asiasat 5.

For optimum signal you would need Prime focus KU band lnb but at this stage normal DTH (offset) ku lnb is enough.

If you wish to connect some other port then you can do like what MJ mentioned.

15. yes these options, but i have also never tried it.. lets wait for amatan reply

16. here is the disecq4 option

17. I see the auto option as default in the diseqc for single satellite colum , (multisatellite:yes), if i change the the multisatellite as no then diseqc 1,2,3 4 etc come in below screen, do you mean this?

so does this mean ok to use diseqc 2lnb with 6ft dish?

18. check inside setup, there will be auto diseqc and another option to put 4 port diseqc

19. @amatan

before i go buy the 6ft dish and 2 ku lnb, just spoke to a dish technician who installed in my house. he is not sure dish hd box accepts disecq, your suggestion was to use 6ft antenna plus 2 kul lnb for each sat and disecq switch them right?

the dish local tech guy is saying get the antenna in which he can connect the same dishtv’smonoblock lnb, i told him that would be impossible

what do you think about this? is the dish tv guy right? also any suggestion of brand for lnb, i guess if i use one which can provide max signal strength this will help the rain problem further

20. 😀 😀 That is Customer care 😀 You will solve this problem easily 🙂

21. Ok , coming back to our original issue. I had sent an email to dish tv about this. One guy calls me and tells he can do nothing to solve this problem. Then writes me below mail.

Thanks,i would like to take up the hd channel hunting as a hobby, so if you can suggest the process like what are the components to buy, like suggestion for good quality/ size of dish, satellite receiver
LNB’s multiple lnb on a dish etc
and how to set it up it would be very helpful
Components needed are:

Atleast 6ft Dish, C Band LNB, Diseqc Switch and HD Free to Air STB. Normal Chinese brand 6ft dish is enough for this purpose and LNB depends on your location. In some areas we need filtered LNBs like Gardiner due to signal interference and in other areas any C band LNB is enough.

i see in other forum now so many excellent /(unavailable with dth)hd channels now fta, thaicom satellite and other
this idea of exploring beyond the dth looks very interesting to me now.

if some forum expert can write a detailed step by step on how to do this will be very helpful for newbies like me
Step by step for receiving C band? I can explain here.

26. i see in other forum now so many excellent /(unavailable with dth)hd channels now fta, thaicom satellite and other

27. you can do one thing, during rainy season you use larger dish for Ku band and after that for rest of the year you can use cband to just explore . You need to buy Fta stb also while buying dish and lnb

28. thanks, i was just trying to understand/ justify the larger dish benefits. so as per you said above sametime both dishtv (ku) and c band hd not possible. Not that i “need ” more hd channels just as a hobby to explore.like a collection hobby
I thought if i invest in this large c band dish then the rain problem will go and also get to explore some more HD content

29. @mulder, as your dish will be on As5 you will have to put Ku lnb to larger dish , but what more HD channels you want to watch? There are nothing on KU band. If u want Cband then there are lot of HD channels FTA but you need to move your dish again to that satellite.

About fixing dish, you dont need professional from outside, just bring it from within you. you can do it alone for 6ft dish antenna.. its easy

30. Yes if you want to watch channels other than the one dish TV provides then you need another STB.

31. looks the same way/order for me, HD channels can be used as rain predictor
i will need to find some professional guys to do this for me. If i get C band 6ft, this problem will be minimal right?
With C band dish can i get some more HD channels that not there in dishtv? it will take another hd reciever +lnb+cable running downwards right?

32. for me whenever dark clouds starts gathering as5 channels go off… then slowly dishtv nss6 and dd dth , some strong tps stay till rain gets very heavy..

33. Alignment will help to reduce the problem but wont solve it completely. 4Ft dish is good choice due to easier setup on ku band. If you are also planing to use for C band then take 6ft.

If you can install 60cms yourself then installing 4ft is easy. What ever the case Mono block cannot be used for these two 🙁

34. @maveli

now i checked again asiasat varies between 63-69%. this is on the parent stb i watches,
there is another stb on front room which has 85% on asiasat,(different dish and lnb)
that stb also goes blank same way as this one during cloud considering 85% is good strength i am not sure alignment will help in this problem

so look like large dish is only workable solution , probably need the large C band dish but need some expert people to set it up.

35. On 4ft Dish or 6ft dish you cannot use Mono block to get both the satellites and that is a head ache. If you worry only about HD channels then buy 100cms or 4ft Dish and fix it to get Asiasat 5 and use diseqc and connect it on port two.

36. i will find some such shop in cochin and talk to them about this. Now both dish and lnb the same one Dish tv guys provided, not sure which make/type
I thought dish tv guys could offer me a such solution and i pay for it

37. Dish TV will not provide it. If possible get a 6 feet C band dish and add two ku lnbs to receive NSS6 and Asiasat side by side. Then rain fade problem will be solved to most extent. But adding two ku lnbs side by side needs some patience and also little hard work.

Are for time being buy 100cms. What LNB you are using on 60cms dish?

38. @amatan

i actually suggested this to dish tv ,i asked them if i can have a larger dish but they just said this is a problem with every dth
do i have to buy it form external market? dish tvguys cannot provide it?

39. Yes, and also you can try getting a larger dish as suggested by Amatan 🙂

40. thanks for your suggestion
i’ll measure it again when it is sunny, so all the hd channels are from the 4 asiasat tp’s?

You can buy 90cms dish and it will survive till it rains very high.

Yea rain outage is common in dth. BTW Why don’t you try kerala vision? Anyway you won’t get this much HD channels on any cable in Kerala 😀
i didnt know they have HD, i am not sure their network is here, asianet didnt want to lay 100m cable. Anyway after these HD channel addition i dont really want to go to cable
They have very less HD channels. Less than Asianet Digital. And choose cable only if you watch Malayalam channels more. Or else you can keep it as a secondary connection also if you have lot of money 😀

43. I mean when there is no rain what signal strength are you getting for Asiasat HD channels. Since you watch only HD channels, align dish in such a way that you get maximum signal strength for Asiasat channels. So that you can at least reduce the duration of outage. And I don’t think there is any way to completely solve the rain outage problem in dth.

12522 56%
12582 57-63%
12642 55-57%
12702 57-59%

46. And what’s your signal strength for Asiasat TP’s??
